El Gatoverde Producciones - Mariano Baratech

Mariano Baratech

Direction

Mariano warned several times anyone who would listen to him: “Someday I will make a movie”. And he did; it’s called “Julie”. And he wanted more, so he decided to invest time and money in making El Gatoverde grow. Half humanist, half engineer. A rare mix, almost laboratory-like: a doer with values, an activist who loves cinema. There is not enough space to describe the business projects he has promoted so far in different fields like the training sector, consulting, customer experience, housing, book publishing… Now he is devoting himself to one of his greatest passions, cinema. Not at any cost, but assuming that you can make a more ecological and supportive world by making films.
His favourite films are Novecento, Doctor Zhivago and Ran. Transcendent and moving classic cinema that leaves no one indifferent. It cannot be a coincidence.

El Gatoverde Producciones - Raquel

Raquel Ameixeiras

Production and development assistant

Galician with a heavy “morriña”, she landed in Madrid with a clear purpose: to live the reality in the world of fiction. Cinema runs in her blood and since she was very little she felt this passion that talks about the story of Cinema Paradiso: love for movies.

As if she were living in Groundhog Day, she loves to watch the same movies several times. She enjoys analyzing them, splitting them, and getting to know every detail of them. She has the superpower of adaptability, maybe because she belongs to this generation which is committed to be “the lost generation”, but Raquel always had clear ideas about her path. Her curiosity and adaptation to changes took her to explore different filmmaking areas: production, which is her specialty, scriptwriting and acting. She dreams about producing her own films.

The way Raquel develops her work in the production field can be defined as any Stanley Kubrick film: precise, organized, creative and with a special care for details, but, unlike the characters of the praised director, always keeping her sanity.

El Gatoverde Producciones - Leo Besadon

Leo Bensadón

Project development

Leo has realised throughout his life that curves are much more fun than straight lines. He spent a few years as an IT developer, followed by too many years as manager, enough to make him take a “green” turn in his life. That change was, oh my god, almost a decade ago. In the last few years, he has done his bit to help people live more sustainably and communally in urban environments. After that beautiful life experience, he took a left turn (as usual) to meet again with a good friend who never failed him, fiction.
A great lover of solitary pleasures (we are talking about reading and cinema, of course), El Gatoverde gives him the opportunity to take advantage of the experience acquired along all those curves and help the team in any way he can, both in fiction and in reality.
Leo has been told that he has to finish by mentioning some of his favourite films, something he has always refused to do, because what he enjoys most about fiction is its eclecticism. But well, if only to create confusion, let’s mention some of the jewels that have moved him over the years, from The Great Beauty to A Family Affair, without ever forgetting his Belle de jour.

El Gatoverde Producciones - Esther Del Pozo

Esther del Pozo

Administration and finance

If it were up to her, she would not be on this page. Discretion is what she is. She is the invisible part that makes El Gatoverde work, managing the administrative part of our business.
The list of adjectives that describe Esther is inexhaustible: efficient, smart, dedicated, constant, loyal, kind, reliable… Of course, she would not agree with them, they are exaggerations, she would say. No way!
She is a textbook super heroine, that’s why she would like to be part of The Avengers, but above all she is a sentimentalist who gets emotional listening to “You’ve got a friend in me” from Toy Story or “Oh captain, my captain!” from Dead Poets Society.

El Gatoverde Producciones - Arturo Ruiz

Arturo Ruiz

Scriptwriter

Arturo suffered from amnesia and completely forgot about his degree in Law from one day to the other, a bit like the main character in Paris Texas. Since 2000 he hasn’t stopped writing, literally, he is always writing, he has no pause. Well, sometimes he does stop. For instance, to offer us genuine and well directed movies such as “El Destierro”. He loves the plot of the story more than endings and draws his characters along the scale of greys that range from good to bad and vice versa, as in LA Confidential. Mainly he tries to find the human side to dramas, because he knows that all of us, at some point in our lives, have been waiting pointlessly at a theatre door for Shirley Maclaine to appear.

Juvenal García

Analysis, strategy and marketing

They say he is a pretty well-rounded guy. A philosopher by training, a sociologist by hobby and a communicator by obsession. An irreverent semiologist, creative mind of award winners, he studies images and messages in a profound and challenging way. No reverential respect for the great geniuses, because he admires them enough for that. He doesn’t like Amélie or almost any of David Lynch’s films. But he likes Nolan, Cuerda and Wilder, so no one understands him. But he is quick and versatile in his work, so that, except for Paco Romero, everyone forgives him for Lynch. His friends call him Nano.

El Gatoverde Producciones - Paco Romero

Paco Romero

Project development

He would have never imagined when he decided to study screenwriting for two years in the ateliers of Fuentetaja, that those years would lead him to create Coocrea and later to collaborate with El Gatoverde. . His biggest strengths are as follow: he knows how to read a script and he is honest with feedbacks. This is what keeps him awake and always learning about his beautiful job As a good Gemini, there are two Pacos; the formal one believes in the religion of storytelling and thinks that the perfect movie is The Third Man. The other Paco, however, wants to be pushed out of his comfort zone, and thinks that Vertigo is in fact the best movie, a movie that completely breaks with narrative orthodoxy. Of course, any of the movies coming out of the sinister imaginary of David Lynch would please the latter Paco.

Raquel Pedreira byMarcoBarada El Gatoverde Producciones

Raquel Pedreira

HOPE! Executive Producer

After more than 10 years in the industry going through different roles, from financing to distribution, and all the processes in between, in 2008 she founded Almaina Producciones. She has developed and produced some of the most successful short films of the last decade with hundreds of selections and awards worldwide: ‘Socarrat’, ‘Zombi’, ‘Nini’, ‘Óscar Desafinado’ or ‘there will be MONSTERS’. Her films have been screened at prestigious festivals such as the New York Film Festival, Sitges, Festival des Films du Monde de Montréal, Warsaw, Molodist, Foyle, Cinequest and Palm Springs, among many others.

Recently, she has been at La Incubadora with ‘Casa de Fieras’ (Eva Saiz), which will be Almaina’s first feature film. She has also participated with a full scholarship at Eave MK and has been part of the emerging producers programme Rotterdam Lab.

She is also part of the executive production of ‘Empieza el baile’ (Marina Seresesky). Joining the executive production of ‘Hope! Estamos a tiempo’ is a new and exciting challenge and almost an obligation: she doesn’t understand why we don’t all stop everything and get to work on reversing climate change.

El Gatoverde Producciones - Jorge Trujillo

Jorge Trujillo

Communication and networks. Development team

Jorge’s family arrived in Spain at the same time as Patricia, from “Flores de otro mundo”, in the 1990s. He grew up in Asturias as a Mason (“Boyhood”) until he ended up studying Audio-visual Communication, film and politics. He never crossed paths with “Vicky, Cristina…” but he did cross paths with Barcelona, his home. This Colombian-born Barcelonian from Asturias, as if it was “La estrategia del caracol”, lives for the moment in “Les Distàncies” in Berlin. Social commitment, loyalty and cinema, the mix that defines him.

He gets emotional in Spanish, Asturian and Catalan. He tries in English and German. He belongs to the so-called “lost generation”, before 15M, but in his heart, he is one of the “Dreamers” who is building his own way, now together with El Gatoverde.

El Gatoverde Producciones Mireia Encinas

Mireia Encinas

Administration

She is a normal girl, who is a natural.. She is from Madrid and an administrator, who never stops learning and growing, and that is why she continues to train in the area of finance. Her conscience and strength can bring us closer to Thor from The Avengers, but she is more like the more magical ones, such as Matilda and Mulan, some references. Mireia is a warrior and strong girl, but she can spend a good part of her time watching a romantic comedy or a series, curiously, argentinian.

In her professional career she has worked in accountancy, accounting and labour departments, but she is not afraid of any job if she has to lend a hand. Just as she has sone with her “Friends” since the “Big Bang” Theory.

El Gatoverde Producciones - Cristina Escobar

Cristina Escobar

Production and project coordinator

Cris is a contradiction in herself. She is uncontrollable and she is the one in control of the management; she is passionate and she is the one who puts the brakes on El Gatoverde’s adventures; she is the one who does not stop exploring every one of her artistic veins, but prefers to stay apart from the script development process. The yin and yang of our production company.
Cris makes finance glamorous with no effort, but that’s not all she does. She is a box of surprises who designs a dossier while applying to a call for proposals and calculating a budget. Surrealistic like Amanece que no es poco, unmanageable like Pulp Fiction and tender like La vida es Bella A real jewel.
